Features of electrofusion fittings

In the sales and application of polyethylene (PE) piping systems, approximately 15% to 20% of sales revenue comes from pipe fittings. PE piping system fittings are mainly divided into two types: hot-melt fittings and electrofusion fittings. Due to price considerations, hot-melt fittings are used more frequently in engineering applications than electrofusion fittings. However, electrofusion fittings play a crucial and irreplaceable role in engineering and maintenance, especially during construction where they are less affected by external environmental and human factors, resulting in higher reliability and greater user appeal. Electrofusion fittings are increasingly used, particularly in gas pipeline projects. Furthermore, due to the complex manufacturing technology, high cost, and relatively high selling price of electrofusion fittings, manufacturers enjoy higher profit margins, making them a hot investment area.
Additionally, because the base material of electrofusion fittings is PE, together with PE pipes, the PE piping system solves two major problems of traditional pipelines: corrosion and leakage at joints. Its advantages are mainly reflected as follows: Corrosion resistance: long service life; Leak-proof joints: the use of electrofusion fittings ensures the consistency of the interface material, structure, and pipe body of the PE pipeline system, achieving integration of the joint and the pipe material; Effective resistance to underground movement and end loads: after the PE pipeline system is connected by fusion welding, the joints based on this method can withstand end loads and will not leak. At the same time, the stress relaxation characteristics of PE can effectively dissipate stress through deformation; therefore, in most cases, costly anchoring is not required at joints and bends. Furthermore, due to its high toughness, the elongation at break generally exceeds 500%, and the PE pipeline system has a very strong adaptability to uneven settlement of the pipe foundation.
